About the university

 The Tuvan State University (TuvSU) was founded in 1995 according to several official documents: 
 -    the Presidential Decree of the Russian Federation from 30.09.1995 г. № 989 
 -    the Government Regulations of the Russian Federation from 02.11.1995 г. № 1061 
 -    the Order of the State higher education committee from 30.11.1995 г. № 1600 
 To establish TuvSU a number of educational institutions were re-organized (the Kyzyl State pedagogical institute of the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Kyzyl pedagogical college of the Ministry of Education of Tuva and the affiliates of the Krasnoyarsk State Technical University and the Krasnoyarsk State agricultural university of the Ministry of agriculture and provision of the Russian Federation) for the following purposes: 
 -    To support the reforms of the higher education system; 
 -    To make the main economical sectors of Tuva more competitive and profitable; 
 -    To educate highly-qualified specialists; 
 -    To develop international relationships with foreign countries in the academic and techno- industrial spheres. 
 Nowadays TuvSU is a leading institution in the system of higher education in the Republic of Tuva. TuvSU is the only state university that provides scientific and professional personnel for various branches of economy, education and administrative institutions of Tuva. According to the number of enrolling applicants (10-15 students per position) TuvSU is on the top list of universities of the Siberian District. 
 Recently due to enhancement of technical and material bases of the university as well as the growing body of highly-qualified staff made it possible to open new majors (specialties) which are mostly requested on the labor market: “Economics and management in organization”, “Technology of producing and processing agricultural products”, “foreign language”, “Social pedagogy”, “Technology and business”, “Law”, “Social services” etc. 
 The university has several subdivisions that serve as a basis for students’ practical training courses and research activities. There are also zoological, ecological and mineral museums. In 2009 the Museum of archeology, history and ethnography of the Central Asia was opened at TuvSU. The natural-geographic faculty has the agro-biological station, dendrarium, and a seed plot for growing rare and extinct herbal plants. It also opened an orangery and conservatory; the agricultural faculty organized a vivarium and a vegetable garden. 
 On the picturesque shores of Lake Chagytai you can visit a sporting camp which is further planned to be extended to a tourist skiing camp for students and teaching staff. The sport club and the eco-tourist clubs of the university prepared a great number of instructors, guides and sportsmen such as the honored master of sport of USSR Dorzhu A.Kh., three masters of sport of the international level: Tutatchikova E.E., Soyan A.A., Dorzhu A.Kh., world champions, champions of Europe and Russia. 
 TuvSU successfully develops international and inter-regional cooperation with academic institutions of the Central and Siberian regions in the sphere of higher education, qualification enhancement and teaching. 
 It has become a good tradition to carry out the exchange of delegations and organize scientific and practical conferences among teachers and students of TuvSU, the Krasnoyarsk pedagogical university, the Irkutsk and Novosibirsk State universities. 
 TuvSU also collaborates with the following foreign universities: 
 -    The Hovd affiliate of the Mongolian State University 
 -    The Hunan Classical University (KNR) 
 -    The Humbold University in Berlin. 
 There are some joint projects fulfilled in collaboration with the Center of Russian and Asian research (the Harvard University, USA). Every year TuvSU receives students from Turkey, Mongolia, USA and Japan.  Visiting scholars and graduate teaching assistants from the research centers of Europe, Asia and USA are invited to lecture at TuvSU. The university also deals with international foundations and organizations: DAAD, IREX, FUULBRIGHT, , International association of universities and others. 
 According to the Regulations of TuvSU there are following subdivisions at the university: 
 - 11 faculties; 
 - 39 departments; 
 - the faculty of qualification enhancement; 
 - the pedagogical college; 
 - special profile classes. 
 The university prepares specialists on 28 majors of higher professional education and 5 majors of the secondary special education.

 To support the further development of Tuva, the university focuses on the following three priorities: 
 1)    realization of educational programs and technologies in main branches of science; 
 2)    establishment of the system for generation and dissemination of knowledge, industrial technology and innovations ; 
 3)    formation of modern university infrastructure and management system of human resources.
